Don is one of those people who can say, “I’ve had a camera in my hand for a long as I can remember” and it’s true. Don got his first camera in the 4th grade and has never put one down. In the 6th grade, video made it’s first impression on Don and he never looked back. He started working with video back in high school while living in a small town in Central Indiana. The high school had a video production studio that the students ran and still do today. While doing this, Don fell in love with editing video. He found out it was a great way to tell a story and to share with others the things he saw and the way he pictured them.
Fast forward to 1995 when a cousin of Leeann (Don’s wife) was getting married and they needed something to give as a wedding present. That is when Leeann suggested that Don grab one of his many video cameras and capture the wedding on video. At the end of the night Don realized he had found his calling; Wedding Video (Film).
After long discussions with Leeann, Midnight Magic Video Productions was born. The name was changed to Midnight Magic Studios in 2008 to reflect the addition of photography into the business. Now, a lot goes into the name of a business. And Midnight Magic Studios is no exception to that. While Don was working at a major cable network. he did wedding and event videos on the side and usually ended up doing most of his best work at night around midnight, or as Leeann called it, the magic hour. Thus began Midnight Magic Studios. In 2006, Don made Midnight Magic Studios his full-time occupation. Someone once said “Find something you love to do and you’ll never work another day in your life” and it’s true. Don says, “I haven’t worked a day since 2006 and I love every minute of it.”.
His shooting style is highly unobtrusive and candid. He doesn’t get in the way and he won’t direct your day, but rather watch it unfold and capture it as it happens. A wedding day has enough drama, humor and romance by itself, the last thing Don wants to do is add stress to it by always being in the way or asking you to do a lot of silly things.
